Unit 73: Sound for Computer Design In this article I will be comparing two pieces of music (The last of Us Theme Song by Gustavo Santaolalla and LittleBigPlanet 3 Dead Heat by Barry Adamson.) The Last of Us Main Theme by Gustavo Santaolalla  The Last of Us Main Theme by Gustavo Santaolalla is a sombre piece of music with a western feel to it. The main theme makes the game emotionally manipulative. The instrument used to make the song was a de-tuned guitar which produces a deep noise. The places the music was recorded in were a bathroom and a kitchen to get the right acoustics. Gustavo also used low harmonic tones to evoke a reaction from the player which would trigger their emotions. Little Big Planet 3 Dead Heat by Barry Adamson Little Big Planet Dead Heat by Barry Adamson is an cheerful, calm melody and sets the pace and the emotion for the level. The track is slightly sombre and plays with the emotions of the player. The song is looped so that the level can go

Unit 20: Computer Game Platforms and Technology

Computer Game Platforms and Technology Software Technology What is an OS (Operating System)? An OS is the most vital important program that runs on a computer. Every PC must have an OS to run programs. The OS performs simple tasks such as performing tasks such as recognising input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen and etc. http://www.webopedia.com/imagesvr-ce/1261/operating-system.jpg Different Types of OS Apple OS: is the OS for Apple’s iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV and similar devices. On iPhones and other Apple device, there is an application called GameCenter and is an online multiplayer social gaming app pre-installed on Apple devices. Update GameCenter was removed in iOS 10 and macOS Sierra, but it’s still available through compatible games. Windows 10: is a unified OS interface supporting all Windows-powered devices from desktops and laptops to smartphones and tablets. To download games there

Unit 20: Understanding Hardware Technologies for Game Platforms

Understanding Hardware Technologies for Game Platforms Displays Displays are used to show the person what is going on, if displays didn’t exist there will be no point of playing a game as you won’t be able to see it. The point of displays is to provide a moving image in a basic form so we can see it when we play games, watch TV and movies . Different types of displays LED: LED (Light Emitting Diode) was the most popular display about 10 years ago but they are now outdated due to them using too much power. LCD: LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is a type of display which is used more than LED as it conserves power by turning itself off when not in use. OLED: OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) portray shades of black better than an LCD display HDR: HDR (High Dynamic Range) is the next big thing in displays as it heightens the picture’s dynamic range which will make the contrast higher within the brightest whites and the darkest blacks. RAM (Random Access Memory) What i

Types of Digital Graphics

Types of Digital Graphics Raster File Formats BMP: Bitmap is a commonly used raster graphic format for saving file images. The BMP format stores colour data for each pixel in the image without compression. BMP are images used often for printable images. Bitmap Image The Pros of BMP (Bitmap) Bitmap files may translate well to dot format output devices such as printers. Pixel values may be modified individually or as large groups by altering a palette if present. The Cons of BMP (Bitmap) The images can be very large particularly if the image contains a large number of colours.  The more complex a Bitmap image is the less efficient the compression process will be. GIF: GIF or Graphics  Interchange Format. A GIF is an image file format commonly used for images on the web and also used for sprites in software programs. GIFs use lossless compression that does not degrade the quality of the image. GIFs store image data using indexed colours, meaning a nor
