Understand Theory and Application used within Computer Game Graphics
Digital
graphics have advanced throughout the years, from 8bit to 64bit. I am going to
compare a 2D game and a 3D game to show how advanced we have become in
graphics.
Castle Crashers (2D Game)
Castle Crashers is a side scrolling 2D beat ‘em up game
which incorporates a small number of role playing elements. Castle Crashers is developed
by The Behemoth and helped by users of Newgrounds. The art style of Castle
Crashers is a beautifully drawn and animated art design which really makes the
game shine. The gameplay of Castle Crashers is a side scrolling brawler
gameplay mixed in with fun boosts and magic. Castle Crashers file extension is
compressed which makes the game files easier to transfer and takes less storage
space. The downside of Castle Crashers is the optimisation for PC as they didn’t
optimise it so they ported it over from the Xbox 360.
Outlast (3D Game)
Outlast is a first person survival horror game developed and published by Red Barrels. The game revolves around around a freelance investigative journalist Miles Upshur who decides to investigate a remote psychiatric hospital situated deep in the mountains of Lake County Colorado. The art style of Outlast is photo realistic and uses dynamic shadowing and per pixel lighting. Outlast is a downloadable file type so its all compressed as there is no need to uncompress the game as its not going on a Blu Ray Disc.
